"Portraits of Zinkov" on view at Hebrew College through Sept 30, 2011

The Portraits of Zinkov art exhibit at Hebrew College includes the
artist's recreation of the people of this Ukrainian shtetl. Photographs
that appeared in the Zinkover Memorial Book published in 1966 served as
the models of a series of haunting portraits of the ill-fated citizens of
Zinkov, a village in Ukraine totally annihilated by the Nazis. The artist,
whose grandparents lived in that community, has undertaken this effort to
memorialize the people of Zinkov and, through them, all of the lost
shtetls of Europe. For more information, see

Farmington Hills Holocaust Memorial Center displays "Portraits of Zinkov"

“Portraits of Zinkov” was exhibited at the Farmington Hills Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan during September and October of 2009. The exhibition was installed to coincide with a celebration honoring Holocaust survivors from the Detroit metropolitan area. Mr. Shulman addressed these survivors and members of the general public about the origin and purpose of the series and answered questions from the audience. The Farmington Hills Holocaust Memorial Center, which combines three distinct museums under one roof, is well worth a visit for anyone coming to the Detroit area. Contact www.holocaustcenter.org to learn about its ongoing exhibits and events.
